You want a miniature sized goat that is friendly, healthy, easy to handle, has good hand-milking teats, and produces delicious milk for your family. You want to make your own dairy products, like cheese, so you want a breed that produces high butterfat. You also have a weakness for long floppy ears.
Back when I was researching and looking for the ideal dairy goat for our farm, I found myself torn between two breeds, Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian. Both excellent breeds, but I wasn't sure that either was quite the right fit for me. I had been around my grandpa's Nubians goats as a kid and loved them, but I thought I might want a smaller, easier to handle goat, like a Nigerian Dwarf. Since I really love cheese, butterfat was high on my list, and both of these breeds fit the bill there, but I found myself wishing there was a breed in between. A mid-sized goat that gave just the right amount of milk, was easy for me to handle, and quite possibly, had those adorable floppy ears. When I came across Mini-Nubians, I knew I had found my dream goat!
Mini-Nubians are a mid-sized breed developed from Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian goats, and can be registered if they come from registered parents. Ours are registered with the Miniature Dairy Goat Association (MDGA). We bought our first goats from a holistically managed herd, and continue to manage our herd holistically here on our farm. We disease test annually for CAE, CL, and Johnes, and maintain a clean herd. These goats are loveable and friendly, easy to handle, and produce delicious, creamy milk.
